Hi, my name is Kennan Staley. I fell out of a truck and landed on my head on the street. I fractured my skull in 2 places and broke my nose. I was rushed to Parkland hospital on July 10th, 2017. They had me in surgery for 6 hours, on incubation, and tubes were put in my head to draw the fluids out. I was in the hospital for 14 days and did 3 weeks of physical therapy.
Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with anxiety issues. I found out by having an anxiety attack during a soccer game I attended. I went back to work in September of 2017 on a limited basis. When I went back to work I was able to finally drive on my own. I was given permission to work full time the week of Halloween in 2017. While this was all happening they also told me I was diagnosed with PTSD.
I have healed a lot but there is more healing to come. Doctors can help you survive and get through this. For us survivors to truly heal we need each other. Each person has their own ways that to get through this, and sharing those ways can really help others. Also talking about your struggles or your accident can help the healing process. I don’t want to make this a religious speech but I will say that God helped me a lot through this and also my church.
